Our Family Business

Company Profile

The Thomas family have been builders since 1922, and the wealth of experience that has accumulated over those years is evident today - a modern company built on the foundations of a legacy. Our Managing Director, Rob Thomas, is the fourth generation of the Thomas family, and the ranks of our company have recently been bolstered by his son, Gethin (MSc, Cert. CIH).

Our construction projects -carried out by us for the last 40 years- have been of a wide variety, including (but not limited to): schools, sports halls, sheltered housing schemes, homes for the elderly, flats and housing (private and public).

Due to our devotion to client satisfaction and quality of building, we maintain high levels of repeat business and referrals. We also recognise the importance of stimulating the economy and so, wherever possible, we engage with the community by employing local workers on our sites and utilise local businesses, suppliers and subcontractors.

Continuity of work projects means we have been able to employ local staff, who acquire skills through on- and off-site training and are able to progress through the company accordingly. (We also employ adult learners where possible).

Our dedication to economic sustainability also extends to apprenticeship schemes. We currently employ apprentices through Carmarthenshire County Council's apprenticeship scheme in conjunction with Coleg Sir Gâr.

Currently, we are involved in a number of significant projects, for both public and private sector clients. Among them are construction schemes for the councils of Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot. Previous work has included such prestigious projects as the two-year restoration of the 18th-century Orangery at Margam Park, and the Grade II* Eagle Academy in Cowbridge (more of which in our Case Studies section).

Our passion for building is closely followed by our keen enthusiasm for sport, which is reflected in our sponsorship of numerous sports teams and clubs. Most notably, we have recently provided sponsorship for the world-famous Scarlets rugby side in Llanelli, as well as many more at grassroots level (see Sponsorship).

As befits a family company, our experienced staff operate within a designated structure with specific roles and procedures. There is strict on-site supervision and close liaison with on- and off-site management, along with contract architects and quantity surveyors.

We pay attention to the smallest details, and as such ensure that all work areas are cleared of tools, equipment, materials and waste at the end of each shift. We also employ interpreters wherever there may be issues regarding communication with occupants.

Although we are a well-established company, we continue to flourish and grow, which is how we have been able to continue employing people even during the recession. Our success comes from a good relationship with our clients, which is why we operate consistent lines of communication to ensure projects run smoothly and successfully.

We look forward to working with you.
